Tasting the Dark Portuguese Fig 2018

Tasting the Dark Portuguese Fig 2018
Picked 10/02/18

Salem Dark
Chicago Hardy

Another first time fig for me. This fig is just really meh to me. The problem is that I literally just tasted 2-3 other figs just like it, which were bigger and slightly better and ripens earlier.

October figs in the PNW can bet categorized as a late fig. And if I'm going to go the extra effort of keeping a late fig. It better be phenomenal to make the extra effort worth it.

The Dark Portuguese is a single crop fig that is suppose to be pretty good on the east coast. However climate can be a major factor on what king of figs will do well here. Perhaps with a head start this fig will be good but from what I've tasted, I would not prioritize this fig over other really good late figs.

On day where literally of dozens of better figs are ripening, the Dark Portuguese fig is easily forgotten. Another dark berry type fig. Same advice goes in the Dark Portuguese as I did for the Salem Dark. If you have Chicago Hardy no need for this one.

Check out this list to save yourself money from buying figs that are too similar.
