Petite Negra Fig - Tasting the brebas 2016

Petite Negra Fig Tasting.

Petite Negra is such a productive fig. For my 3ft tree it's pretty loaded with fruit. The taste is not as sweet as a VDB and has tad bit more acidity to it. It's a good tasting fig but not the best tasting one I've had. It has raspberry notes and a jammy consistency.

Nice keeper in terms of productivity, but VDB edges out this one by a small margin.

Petite Negra: Breba
Taste: 6.8
Size: 3
Productivity: 8
Total = 16.8

Fig of the week. #17 Petite Negra

Fig of the week. #17 Petite Negra AKA Petite Negri

Hardiness: Survives the Seattle Winter
Type: Bifere
Fruit Ripens: July and September
Fruit Color: Black with red interior
Taste: Sweet berry tones very thin skin
Fruit Weight: 29Grams Breba and 7 grams Main
Leaf Structure: 3 lobes and single lobed

This little fig is a great tasting bite size snack. However you're gonna need 2 handfuls of these to actually satisfy any cravings. It's like eating a jammy grape. Very good. I would recommend trimming this plant to a bush form to maximize the fruit production. You're definitely not at a risk for breaking branches from such tiny fruit.

Some people think this is really similar to VBD but I believe it's a completely different variety for sure. The fruit size look very different.

If you like small plants this is your best bet. It does great in containers and will stop growing at a certain size.

September Fig Tasting Video

I'm loving September! A fraction of my figs are ripening and I get to enjoy the fruits of my labor. I picked a Verte, Petite Negra, and Mystery White Kadota today.

The Verte was amazing. It tasted like strawberry jelly. Definitely a keeper.

Petite Negra was the size of a grape. Very tasty but you need to have a handful of these to be satisfied

White Kadota or what I think is the white Kadota is the worse fig I've ever tasted. So insipid and flavorless. YUCK!
