Violet De Bordeaux Breba is Almost ready
My in ground Violet De Bordeaux Fig breba is almost ready to be picked! It's been hot here lately and it's helped it ripen sooner. Can't wait. It's a still a very delicious fig!

Tasting Violette de Bordeaux, Florea, & Olympian Figs
The Brebas are winding down and these are about the last ones I'm picking off of my fig trees.
Violette de Bordeaux
The Violet de Bordeaux 3rd yr in ground has finally hit it's maturity level. The figs are top notch this year in terms of taste. The color, texture, flavor and did I mention color of my VDBs this year were spectacular! The breba productivity kinda stunk though because I only pulled about 5 figs from this tree.
VDB for any Seattle grower should go in ground, you will be rewarded nicely with some of the best figs to eat.
Florea
This is a great fig! My 2yr old tree grown in a 2 gallon pot has proven to be incredibly productive. It had 10 figs on basically a single branch! I think it maybe a good candidate to go in ground here. It's definitely a keeper.
There's a real strong punch of sweetness and strawberry from the Florea. It's small but carries a big flavor stick.
Florea: Main Crop (8/14/17) - 2yr old plant
Olympian
The Olympian has gotten better and better over the last couple of years. It definitely has adapted very well to the climate that we have here in the PNW. The brebas are large and very attractive with it's bright yellow necks.
The taste on these were less figgy than the Gene's Vashon, it was sweet and melony. My kind of fig. Very little seed crunch compared to the Gene's Vashon. I'm glad to have this guy in ground it will only get more productive with time.

Tasting The 1st Violette De Bordeaux this Season
Eating my very first ripe brebas from my Violette De Bordeaux fig. It was delicious! I have mine in ground and in pots.
This is a great fig to grow in ground here in Seattle. I love the texture difference of the in ground tree. It's so much juicier.

Fig of the Week. #5 Negronne
Negronne AKA Violette De Bordeaux | Nero 600
Hardiness: Survives Seattle's Winters
Type: Bifere
Fruit Ripens: July and Sept
Fruit Color: Black with red Interior
Taste: Thick strawberry jam very sweet
Fruit Weight: 25grams
Leaf Structure: 5 pointy fingers
Note: Semi easy to root with enough nodes. 3-4 weeks
Negronne/Violette De Bordeaux Fig is an excellent mission-type fig for cooler areas. Small jet-black fruit with dark red flesh. Rich flavor, good fresh or dried.
Negronne fig often produces a breba crop, very hardy. Good for container culture or small spaces due to its naturally small size.

Tasting my breba Violette de Bordeaux
This is my first breba fig from my 2 year old Violette de Bordeaux Or Negronne. It tasted delicious. It had a thick gelatinous honey like berry taste to it. I wish I had more than one to share.
There's a lot of confusion over this variety. It is quite often confused up with Negronne. I still make the mistake. There's also the Petite Negra which is also very similar to VBD. I have all three, so one of these years I can hopefully do a side by side comparison.
