How to train your fig for best production

Pruning is a must for most fruit trees and it's also very true for figs as well. As gardeners, it's our responsibility to provide the best conditions for our fruit trees to maximize their yields.

It means fertilization, water, sun and up potting when necessary. We also cannot over look pruning. I like my trees to grow into vase forms with 4-6 scaffolding branches.

Obviously when the tree looks like a whip you're not going to get a bushel of figs.

I found this great diagram that I'd like to share for how to prune you fig trees as it begins to grow.
