Save yourself some time and money on these figs

How many times have you heard me say it's a black fig that has a jammy berry flavor?

Well..

Let's save people a lot of time and money and say that you do not need 50 black figs that taste like berry jam. Let's pick the best from the bunch.

In my opinion if you have Chicago hardy or anyone from this list, you probably do not need the following figs. They have the same or really similar flavor profiles and feel a bit redundant. They also have similar ripening times. These are dark single crop berry type figs. (Feel free to add to this list)

Some figs may do better in certain climates so do some research before investing too much time and money in on any of these.

For me I'll keep the ones with the stars * these have proven to be productive for me.

1. Dark Salem
2. Dark Portuguese
3. Black Bethlehem
4. Malta Black (Hermans)
5. Chicago Hardy *
6. Sals EL
7. Gino's Black
8. Antonio Black
9. Don Fortiss
10. Angelos Dark
11. MBVS *
12. Mt Etna Unk
13. Hardy Hartford
14. Natalina * 2 crops
15. Zingarella * early

The figs below are figs with similar profiles provided by my friend Vinny. I have not tried them yet, however he is in a similar zone so these figs may behave the same for PNW collectors.

Climate may make some of these taste or do better, so do some research on ourfigs and F4F to see what the local growers prefer in your area.
